Searching for a better world!

UNICEF’s prime online presence is at www.unicef.org. The web site attracts a substantial amount of traffic and acts as a premier source of information and news about global issues affecting children. However, in 2009 the web site was suffering from an outdated design and the search and navigation functionality were not intuitive enough for the user to find and discover relevant information. In addition to this UNICEF wanted to aggregate more content sources in order to increase the depth of information they provided to their users.

Faced with these obstacles UNICEF set out to re-create a best-in-class online destination.

Creating an online edge

In order to create an intuitive and user-oriented web site, UNICEF decided to engage Comperio. UNICEF needed a robust solution that was easy to implement and offered superior functionality and choose Comperio based on experience and thought leadership on Site Search solutions. In addition to engaging with specialist consultants, UNICEF also utilized the Comperio Front™ technology to leverage the FAST Enterprise Search Platform that was already in place. The Comperio team helped re-launch the web site’s overall search and navigation functionality and created a new design making the vast amount of content more intuitively accessible for the users. By introducing a new faceted navigation sidebar in addition to improving the main search and navigation functionalities, the Comperio Front™ technology provided for engaging user experiences by delivering better contextual information from the vast amount of data and content sources.

A premier online destination with success!

“As we were looking to enhance the www.unicef.org website and allow users the best access to information provided by our organization, Comperio delivered the most comprehensive search and navigation solution to us with Comperio Front™. UNICEF needed to re-establish itself and compete more efficiently in today’s competitive online environment for attention from both the general population and the professionals whom we consider to be our audience. Since we launched the enhanced web site we have seen a strong increase in both the number of page views and average time spent on the site per user. For us that is a clear indication that we are on the right path to reach www.unicef.org’s goal of becoming the premier online destination for information and news about issues affecting children globally,” said Stephen Cassidy, Chief of UNICEF’s Internet, Broadcast and Image section.
